New Momentum for Transport Sector Announced at ‘Buckle Up!’ Exhibition in Budapest

Open until end October. Hungary's transport sector can finally gain "new momentum" under Transport and Investment Minister David Vitézy, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said at the opening of a new exhibition at the Hungarian Museum of Science, Technology and Transport on Saturday.

Speaking at the "Buckle Up!" exhibition, Magyar praised Vitezy's passion for transport history and future innovation, saying his leadership would bring the sector closer to families and young people.

The prime minister noted that the exhibition traces Hungary's transport safety history, showcasing how technology is making travel safer, faster and greener.

Magyar highlighted the museum's role in inspiring generations, calling it a place where families can "learn through play" while admiring engineering achievements.

The event coincided with Hungary's 24th annual Night of Museums, with 300 cultural sites nationwide opening their doors to visitors.

Vitezy criticised what he called the previous government's "divisive political culture", which he said had prevented exhibitions at the museum from opening last summer.

The exhibition, housed in a 1962-built diesel repair hangar, features artefacts from the museum's road, rail, air and maritime collections, including modern radar systems, cameras and AI-driven innovations.

It also explores the future of the Hungarian Road Traffic Code (KRESZ).

After the speeches, Magyar joined a guided tour along with Social Affairs and Culture Minister Zoltan Tarr and transport and investment ministry state secretary Zsolt Tarkanyi.

The "Buckle Up!" exhibition is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 5pm, until the end of October.
