- 26 Jun 2026 2:48 PM
Speaking at the board meeting of construction industry association EVOSZ, Banai said 25,000-30,000 new homes should be added annually on the Hungarian property market.
He said the number of new homes under development and sale increased 30pc to over 23,000 in the second quarter.
Thanks to the Home Start subsidised credit scheme for first-time home buyers, the ratio of first-time home buyers rose to 40pc from 25pc in one year in the capital.
Banai said prices reflected the demand boosted by the Home Start scheme: in the fourth quarter of 2025, home prices rose 23.5pc nationwide and 26pc in Budapest.
In the first quarter of this year, home prices were up 17.7pc year/year nationwide and 16.5pc in the capital.
