Balog Presents Bill Outlining Students’ Obligations In Hungary
Students who receive state scholarships will not be banned from leaving Hungary after graduation, but will have to meet work obligations in Hungary within a 20-year period, under an amendment submitted on Friday by Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog.

Recipients of state aid will still be required to work in Hungary for double the number of years for which they received state aid, but can do that within 20 years of graduation.

Women who give birth to three or more children will be exempted from any repayment duty.

Instead of a contract, as proposed earlier, students will have to sign a unilateral declaration in which they agree to the conditions.

Those who abandon their studies after one year or more will have to repay state aid at an interest rate indexed to inflation rather than to the base rate, as indicated in the present regulation.
