Hungary's Fidesz Gears Up For Party Congress
Fidesz may decide at its weekend congress to incorporate the lower utility prices in the Basic Law and may also pass a political declaration that the party will protect the rate cuts for the people, Magyar Nemzet learnt.

There is a debate under way in the Fidesz caucus over whether to incorporate the utility rate cuts in the constitution, spokesman Máté Kocsis told reporters in Szekszárd, south Hungary.

“Some say it would be an exaggeration to incorporate it in the Basic Law, while others say the rate cuts should become a national cause that all governments support.”

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in his radio interview last Friday that Parliament could pass a bill on turning utility companies into non-profit ones by next spring at the latest.

Orbán is to be re-elected party president during the conference at Buda’s Millenáris Park.
