Hungarian National Philharmonic’s Concert, National Concert Hall, Budapest, 4 December
Anton Bruckner’s (unfinished) Symphony No. 9 as well as the anthem of faith and hope, the Te Deum will be performed on 4th December. The Austrian composer could not even complete his swansong, and had written just three out of four movements before his death in 1896.

As there were only sketches remaining for the last, it is closed by a dramatic slow movement. Besides this- or as a contrast The Te Deum- although it is rather a gloomy but its final outcome is definitely positive: the slowly evolving finale with the fanfare of the trumpets sounds like faith and hope.

The conductor of the concert, the Dutch origin Hubert Soudant has strong links to Austria and Austrian music. He has recorded several symphonies by Bruckner, including his Ninth.
