Hungary New Car Sales Set To Climb 10% In 2014
New passenger car sales in Hungary are expected to rise by 10% to 62,000 this year, Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) chairman Péter Erdélyi said on Tuesday.

Last year, new car sales came to 56,000, down sharply from 176,000 in 2007, the year before the crisis. Used car sales reached 71,000 last year, up from 24,000 in 2007. MGE is proposing to the government putting a 13- to 14-year age cap on used cars that are imported to Hungary, Erdélyi said.

Sales of light commercial vehicles could also rise by 10% this year, to 12,500, helped by the National Bank of Hungary’s cheap refinancing for SMEs, he said. Sales of heavy commercial vehicles are set to fall 20-25% to 3,600. Motorcycle sales are expected to increase 10% to 2,100.
