- 18 Aug 2014 9:00 AM
Both Jobbik and some left-wing liberals reacted with dismay to the news that Nobel Prize novelist Imre Kertész will be given the St. Stephen Award, the nation’s highest official honour on August 20.
Jobbik spokeswoman Dóra Dúró declared in an open letter to President János Áder that Kertész is unworthy of the award because of his remarks he made in the past about Hungarians .
The website of the Jewish periodical Szombat carried excerpts from an essay contributed by Index staff writer Gábor Miklósi under the title “Imre Kertész has become the government’s Holocaust clown”.
