Justice Minister Calls On Diplomats To Combat Criticism Of Hungary
The justice minister has told the country’s diplomats to combat criticism of areas such as Hungary’s justice system. Justice Minister László Trócsányi told MTI after his speech to Hungarian ambassadors that European values were important but member states should not be expected to “give up their constitutional identity”.

Hungary’s constitutional identity consists of “our historical traditions, our values, policies of the family, national cohesion [and] culture...”

On another topic, the minister said that political and legal aspects should not be mixed up when creating a legal mechanism at a European level, warning that ensuing disputes would otherwise “tear the European Union apart”.

Referring to plans to set up a European Prosecutor, Trócsányi said that power conflicts between national authorities and the planned institution should be avoided.
