Hungary To Send Troops To NATO Rapid Response Force
Hungary will contribute troops to NATO’s rapid response force to be set up in connection with the Ukraine crisis, defence minister Csaba Hende told public Kossuth Rádió. Hende said that Hungarian servicemen will “certainly be delegated to the (new force’s) command in Poland, and we will see the rest”.

On another subject, Hende voiced Hungary’s commitment to gradually raise its defence budget and spend 20% of that budget on improving military capabilities, in line with a decision made at NATO’s recent summit in Wales.

Hende added that parliament will pass relevant decisions concerning the developments, which are expected to “fundamentally renew” the capabilities of the Hungarian military. At the Wales summit last week, Hungary agreed to upgrade its military air base at Pápa.

The project will cost an estimated 20 billion forints (EUR 64m).
