Interest In Language Courses In Hungary Strong Among Would-Be Unigrads
So far, 31,000 young Hungarians who have completed their university studies have signed up for statesponsored courses to help them pass their language exam, Economy Minister Mihály Varga said.

Varga said 340 of the courses had started in 82 cities and towns around the country over the past month and a half. The number of participants is expected to reach 10,000 by year-end, he added.

A decision on continuing the programme will be taken later, depending on results, he said. Students at Hungarian institutions of higher education must pass a foreign language exam before they can be awarded a diploma.

Surveys show that some 50,000 students who have completed all coursework and passed final exams have not been awarded a diploma only because they have not cleared the language requirement.
