Fidesz: “Zero Tolerance” For Tax Fraud In Hungary
- 8 Dec 2014 8:00 AM
There is “zero tolerance” for tax fraud and corruption in Hungary, the spokesman for the parliamentary group of governing Fidesz said. Bence Tuzson told a press conference that small, left-wing parties had, “with the support of the local representative of the American government”, recently made statements that attempt to draw the picture that tax fraud is a usual thing in Hungary, without going into specifics.
The fact is that Hungary’s tax office NAV is investigating a number of matters, such as one involving cooking oil company Bunge, in which a number of individuals have been taken into custody, he added.
Tuzson noted that evidence in another recently uncovered case of VAT fraud, involving a businessman in a Slovakia, showed the crime had taken place during the Gyurcsány government.
He added that the businessman had been “in contact with Tamás Welsz, who was a well-known acquaintance of Gábor Simon”, the former deputy head of the Socialists.
