Extension Of Tram Line 1 To Újbuda Has Been Completed
The development of tram lines 1 and 3 has been completed and in the framework of the project the extension of tram line 1 to Újbuda has come to an end. By this the Rákóczi Bridge has gained its original function, said Mayor István Tarlós at the inauguration ceremony.

Through this development the capital has redeemed its time-worn debt, as the extension of the line to Újbuda had been at case issue since 1995, when the bridge was completed, however due to the passivity of the former city leadership nothing happened. In 2010 this era had come to an end, emphasized Mayor István Tarlós.

He added that in the framework of the works the infrastructure of the lines has been renewed, the environmental burden has decreased, travelling has accelerated, and what the most important of all these is that the time of travelling has been reduced.

It is almost an obligation of the 21st century to build accessible stops, he added that from now on approaching the vehicles with baby carriages or wheelchairs will also be more comfortable.

István Tarlós has explained that during the EU programming period till 2020 the capital city may receive approximately HUF 340 billion of subsidy, which also proves the successful cooperation between the government and the capital.

He added that the HUF 8.5 billion project, which allows the extension of the line to Etele tér providing a direct transfer connection between tram line 1, metro line 4 as well as Kelenföld railway station, is already part of the 7-year-long budgetary plan.
