Conductor Plans Sunday Sing-Along In Budapest
Conductor Ádám Fischer has invited the public to join him for a sing-along on Sunday at the Szabadság tér memorial to the victims of German occupation. The conductor said he considers it very important “to raise our voice together” for Europe. Fischer will conduct participants in singing the French, German, Slovak and Hungarian national anthems, as well as Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, the anthem of the EU, at 6 p.m. Sunday.

In a statement, Fischer noted the significance of the location, saying the memorial falsifies history and demonstrates nostalgia for the inter-war Horthy era and its institutionalised anti-Semitism.
