- 13 Nov 2015 10:00 AM
The government is considering setting up around 2,000 free Wi- Fi access points, using the already existing 1,300 e-Hungary points as a foundation for the project, daily Népszabadság said. In settlements without e-Hungary points, Wi- Fi access will be set up in local municipality offices or the most frequented public spaces.
The paper estimated the cost of the project to be between 400 million forints and 2 billion (EUR 6.4m) based on opinion of experts.
Previously media sources reported that the government could introduce a low-cost basic internet service, reduce the VAT rate on internet service to 18 percent and put free Wi-Fi in all settlements as part of a comprehensive development strategy.
