Hungary Keeps Level 3 Terror Alert In Place, No Direct Threat
Hungary’s authorities have decided to keep a medium-level (class 3) terror alert in place in the country, although no direct threats of terrorism have been reported. Earlier-introduced security measures will be kept in place, the interior ministry told MTI in a statement on Wednesday, after reviewing the situation with the counter-terrorism force (TEK).

Laszlo Tasnadi, state secretary for the police at the ministry, Karoly Papp, national police chief, and Janos Hajdu, the head of TEK, were briefed at a meeting on Wednesday about information gathered by the national security services.

Based on this update, the ministry concluded that the threat of terrorism in Hungary cannot be ruled out completely, although there has been no intelligence put forward about any concrete threats, the statement said.

Because of the general implications of terrorism on European countries, a level 3 terror alert will continue to be applied in Hungary and heightened security measures will remain in place, it said.

TEK has reinforced its standby security level and controls will be strengthened throughout the country, it added.
