Journalists Cannot Be Banned From Hungarian Parliament
The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has ruled that journalists can not be banned from a country’s legislature, unless there is a threat to the safety of the public, MPs or the reporters.

In general, such bans violate the public interest by restricting citizens’ access to important information, the court said.

Speaker László Kövér has repeatedly banned journalists from Parliament on the basis that they have trespassed into areas that are off-limits to them. Journalists from HVG, RTL Klub, 24.hu and Index have been affected, while a ban remains in effect for all employees of 444.

Yesterday’s ruling came in a Macedonian case dating back to 2012.
