Public security in Hungary is “firm and free of extremism”, the interior minister said in Budapest on Saturday. Speaking at an oath-taking ceremony of young police officers, Sándor Pintér highlighted the government’s commitment to making Hungary “the safest country in Europe” and said “we will not allow our security or future to be jeopardised; we will save our borders from the attacks of illegal migrants and human smugglers”.
He added, however, that border control was not enough and insisted that “a law abiding attitude” by the people and “eliminating extremist groups and ideologies from public life” were also needed.
