Lake Balaton’s water level reached 133 cm at Balatonfenyves, over the target ceiling of 120cm, the town’s mayor Gábor Lombár told radio channel InfoRádió.
That causes problems for the town, which is using sandbags and pumps to protect itself from the water, the mayor said.
High water levels are a result of more rain than usual. The water-releasing capacity of the lock at Siófok is limited to 60m3 per minute. The lock is used to manage the Balaton’s water levels.
Balatonfenyves is applying for state funds to finance the elevation of the land at the lakeside, Lombár added.
