Budapest is set to completely restructure its municipal parking system starting July 1, with the total removal of physical parking meters coinciding with a significant increase in hourly fees across the capital.
The comprehensive renewal of Budapest's Grand Boulevard seeks to revive its 19th-century splendour while adapting it to 21st-century demands, including climate change, Gergely Karácsony, the city's mayor, said on Thursday at the launch of the project's action plan.
The Corvin Quarter and Újpest district have recently received some lesser-known but highly practical upgrades: BKK, as part of the EU-funded GRETA project, has introduced the first short-term parking bays, limited to a maximum of 30 minutes, specifically designed for quick errands.
