LMP Seeks Ban On Plastic Bags In Hungary
The opposition LMP is submitting a bill on banning the use of plastic bags in Hungary from 2020, the party’s deputy group leader said on Tuesday, International Plastic Bag Free Day.

Erzsébet Schmuck noted that many countries have restricted the use of plastic bags.

An annual 8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in global seas and unless the tendency is reversed, plastic will outweigh fish by 2050, she said.

The current tax in Hungary on plastic containers and wrapping “doesn’t resolve the problem and merely prolongs it”, she added.
