Magyar Posta Modernising Mail
Magyar Posta will modernise its letter delivery system in a Ft 5.7 billion project, with the help of Ft 2.4 billion in EU and state support, the state-owned company announced yesterday.

Customers will be able to track the delivery of registered letters on the Magyar Posta website or with a mobile app.

Some 8,000 letter carriers will be given personal digital assistants. Those in larger towns will also be provided with a small printer to leave official notice of registered mail delivery in postboxes.

The paper slip signed by the addressee on delivery of registered letters will be phased out in 2019, to be replaced by an electronic system.

Magyar Posta will start to test the new system in selected districts in Budapest, Ercsi, Gyöngyös, Miskolc, Monor, Sopron and Nagykáta in the second half of November.
