New 500 Forint Notes Out

The new Ft 500 banknote entered into circulation on February 1. The note has new security elements that make it more resistant to counterfeiting, the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) announced.
The introduction of the new Ft 500 note completes the MNB’s banknote replacement programme launched with the renewal of the Ft 10,000 note in 2014.
The old Ft 500 notes remain legal tender until the end of October. After that date, post offices and banks will exchange old notes for new ones until October 31, 2022.
The MNB will exchange them for 20 years.
