Holiday Programs In Budapest On 15 March
The Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was one of many of the European Revolutions that year, and was closely linked to other 1848 revolutions in the Habsburg areas. The revolution in the Kingdom of Hungary grew into a war for independence from the Austrian Empire, ruled by the Habsburg monarchy.

9:00 am  -  Raising the flag of Hungary with military honours at Kossuth Square

In commemoration of the Hungarian Revolution and Independence War of 1848-1849, the flag of Hungary will be raised with military honours at Kossuth Square.

After hoisting the flag, a procession will head out to the Hungarian National Museum, being the next scene of commemorations.

9:00 am -6:00 pm - Free Family programs in the Buda Castle

On the occasion of the National Day, visitors are welcome in the Buda Castle to participate in traditional programs. At events taking place in several locations, children could take part in skill competitions; craftsman workshops and even prepare their own kokárdas.

1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Free Family programs in the garden of the National Museum

On 15th March 2018 the Parliament building and the Visitor Center are not open for visitors.

On 16 March Parliament is open for visitors from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Due to national holiday, on 16th March 2018 there will be an open day in the House of Parliament. Visitors will have the chance to get a glimpse of the Grand Hall, the Dome Hall and the Holy Crown from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Preliminary registration is not required, the admission is free for all visitors. The approach direction to the Building is from Alkotmány Street. A security check is required prior to entering the House of Parliament. Visitors must not enter the building with large bags, packages or objects capable of causing personal injury, such as pocket knives, knives, gas spray etc.

Along of expected great attendance, long queueing up is probable.

During the open day – from 8 am to 4 pm – regular visits led by trained guide are also available. These groups depart from the Visitor Centre. The one thousand years of Hungarian legislation exhibition may be also visited from 9 am to 4 pm.

10:00 am - 3:00 pm: on Andrassy Avenue between Oktogon and Heroes Square, a 1848 metre long national flag is going to be  spread out
