May Day Holiday Programs In Budapest
May 1st is a national holiday in Hungary, featuring a wide range of Spring time festivals and fun activities, read on to know what's happening around the capital.

Great Race of Budapest

Race cars, motorbikes and trucks in the heart of Budapest! Yes, this is the 5th Great Race, a spectacular event for spectators, which has the aim of 'bringing the motorsport closer to the people'.

This event has become a tradition in the Hungarian capital, allowing fans up close to the race cars, motorbikes, trucks and drivers, held this year around Erzsébet tér, Andrássy út, and Oktogon.

Formula 1 cars and drivers Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing) and Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) will show off their F1 cars. Legendary F1 driver Gerhard Berger will also be here again.



DTM stars Timo Glock and Rene Rast will be here too, plus WTCC cars and drivers.

You can visit the cars and meet the pilots in the Paddock near the Basilica, on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky road, downtown Budapest.

- The organizers say they reserves the right to make changes to the event program if necessary.

Traffic changes during Great Race:
The Great Run, the race of cars and motorbikes will be organised also in 2019 in Budapest, due to which during the daytime on 1 May 2019 (Wednesday) and owing to the preparation works on 30 April (Tuesday evening), traffic will be restricted on Andrássy út, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Károly körút and in the surrounding area.

Due to the road closure, traffic of the relating transport lines will be modified. BKK requests that passengers travelling to or in the downtown on 1 May approach their destination by fixed-railed public transport, instead of cars: trains will start more frequently than usual during the day on all four metro lines and tram lines 4 and 6.

On 1 May, metro line M3 runs between Nagyvárad tér and Újpest-központ. From Nagyvárad tér to Kőbánya-Kispest, metro replacement buses will be in operation. Between 6:00 and 18:00 on 1 May, busline 100E runs between Kálvin tér M and Liszt Ferenc International Airport, not serving the Deák Ferenc tér and Astoria stops.

During this time period, in possession of the pre-purchased single ticket in the amount of HUF 900, metroline M3 can be used between Deák Ferenc tér and Kálvin tér, without the need to purchase an extra ticket. 

On 1 May, Sunday and public holiday schedules apply for departures of public transport lines.


Tabán Festival

Tabán is popular with Budapesti locals to celebrate the first day of May with live concerts from early afternoon untill late night, in the green 1st district Tabán area in Buda.

'Yoga May Day' On Margaret Island

Program starts at 10 am.at Nagytér between the Margitsziget Water Tower,  Margitsziget Open Ait Stae and the Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget area. Further info available here

Városliget May Day

The largest park in Budapest, Városliget, hosts a festival every year on Labor Day from 11:00 am onwards..

Visitors can find craft fair, food and drinks, concerts featuring local pop stars starting and children programs
