Lifting of Secrecy on Budapest-Belgrade Railway Project Initiated by Gov't

The government has officially initiated the lifting of secrecy on documents related to the Budapest-Belgrade railway project, Transport and Investment Minister David Vitezy said on Saturday after meeting China's ambassador to Hungary.
Vitezy noted that China's agreement is required in order to lift the secrecy, as the project is based on a bilateral agreement between the two countries.
He noted that construction is nearly complete, with freight trains already using the line, but the signalling system is still being tested.
"We agreed that the top priority is to launch passenger services as soon as possible, once the signalling system passes thorough testing and meets Hungarian and EU safety standards," he wrote.
The Budapest-Belgrade railway documents and Chinese loan agreements were classified for 10 years by parliament in 2020 under the previous government led by Viktor Orban.
