Norwegian Investors Start Pilot Training Near Balaton

Norwegian company Central European Aviation Cluster, in partnership with Norway’s Pilot Flight Academy, will establish a pilot training centre in Hévíz from a €15 million investment, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Monday.

Training aircraft have been ordered from Austria and courses are set to begin in the autumn, he said, adding that the centre will train 300 pilots each year.

Wizz Air began training pilots in Nyíregyháza in 2017, and the National Public Service University has revived training of military pilots and air traffic controllers after two decades, Szijjártó noted.

Pilot training is also available in Debrecen.

Central European Aviation Cluster chairman Stig Eyde said the company learned about the investment possibility at a roadshow of state investment promotion agency HIPA.

He said the company sees huge potential in the Hévíz-Balaton Airport.

Pilot Flight Academy is one of the largest pilot training centres in Europe, present in ten countries, said CEO Frode Granlund, adding that the Hévíz academy will be one of the biggest in Europe.
