Hungarian Basketball Team Cancels Italy Match Over Virus Fears
The Sopron women’s basketball team has refused to play a Euroliga game against Italian club Schio at a neutral site in Ljubljana, due to fears of the coronavirus.

The game is due to be played on Wednesday night.

The Sopron club – backed by the city and the Hungarian Basketball Association – objected that the city of Schio is located near the provinces of Lombardy and Veneto in northern Italy, which have been closed due to infection.

Club president Zoltán Török said the club is ready to bear the consequences of its decision, as “we are protecting ourselves, our community, our city and the people of Hungary”.

Hungarian Basketball Association leader Péter Bodnár travelled to Geneva to represent the interests of the team at the International Basketball Federation.
