The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pecs will hold a series of events on June 6 to mark World Art Nouveau Day, focusing on eosin glazing, influential women of the era, turn-of-the-century fashion, and the Zsolnay family, the operator, Zsolnay Heritage Management Nonprofit, (ZSOK) said in a statement on Monday.
Eastern-themed productions and works of Kodály in focus of the 143rd season of the Hungarian State Opera. Twelve premieres – including new productions of Salome, Madama Butterfly, and Il trovatore, the world premiere of Máté Bella’s Passio, and a centenary production of Háry János – are featured in the Hungarian State Opera’s 2026/27 season.
Beyond its religious and historic significance, Pentecost in Hungary serves as the unofficial debut of summer, filling the long weekend with outdoor concerts, craft markets, and exceptional local food and wine.
Pentecost is a major public holiday, observed on Sunday 24 May 24 and Monday 25 May in Hungary this year. Known as Pünkösd in Hungarian and historically referred to as Whitsun in English, this Christian celebration provides a three-day weekend that is popular for excursions, cultural exploration, and experiencing rural traditions.
