Coronavirus: Scarves No Longer Accepted For Use As Face Masks In Hungary

The coronavirus epidemic calmed down during the summer but it did not end and “we can again witness the pandemic resulting in more infected people throughout the world,” National Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller told a press conference on Saturday.
Müller said for the fifth consecutive day the number of new registered cases was approaching 1,000 in Hungary and stressed that a new approach to the epidemic is needed, distinct from the one last spring.
While last spring the elderly were mostly affected, in the autumn it is twentysomethings who are mostly being infected, she said, adding that “the purpose of protection is for us to live our everyday life, but safely”.
From Monday, September 21, wearing masks will be mandatory not only on public transport and in shops, but in theatres, cinemas and shopping malls.
Scarves are no longer considered masks: only medical and textile masks that cover the nose and mouth. Hands should always be washed, but if that is not possible, alcoholic sanitizers should be on hand, she outlined.
Catering and night spots must close at 11 p.m. and bans on visits to health care and social care institutions are in effect.
Meanwhile, MÁV and Volán continue to tighten regulations on the use of masks, on the basis of a government decree, from Monday.
Masks must be worn at public transport stations, waiting rooms and stops. The regulation applies to everybody, with the exception of children under six. Those who breach the rule will be fined or excluded from travel. In cases of resistance police can be summoned.
