Hungary Eases Border Crossing To Austria
The 30-km area restriction and the 24-hour time limit for commuters across the Hungary-Austria border were lifted with immediate effect on Friday.

A government decree of September 1 has so far allowed commuting within 30km of the border and only if the duration of commuters’ stay outside Hungary did not exceed 24 hours.

Hungarian authorities have notified the Austrian Ministry of the Interior of the lifting of the measure.

Loosening travel restrictions will make things easier for many Austrian and Hungarian commuters, said Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer.

He added: “I have been in close contact with my Hungarian colleague Sándor Pintér since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. Ongoing dialogue is a crucial factor, especially at a time of such great challenges.”
