Mid-December brought unusually spring-like weather to Hungary, with highs of 8-13 degrees Celsius on Monday and 6-12 degrees on Tuesday (December 16 and 17). Night frosts have also stopped in most areas due to a westerly flow that is bringing warm ocean air from the Atlantic.
Hungary is ready for the heating season and natural gas supplies are continuous from the south, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in St Petersburg, adding that the country’s energy security was “guaranteed in the long term”.
Between 1990 and 2023 Hungary reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 43%, the energy minister said, adding that the country had overachieved its 2030 climate policy target of a 40% reduction.
This spring was the warmest in Hungary since records began in 1901, according to HungaroMet.
