The new deal replaces an agreement that was to expire in 2032.
The “rustic” racetrack built in 1986 must be comprehensively modernised, Palkovics declared.
Chairman and CEO of Hungaroring Zsolt Gyulay said the renewal will probably start next spring by rebuilding the office building, the shop and the café.
After the 2022 race the main viewing pavilion will be rebuilt and after the 2023 race the expansion of the paddock and reconstruction of the main building will take place.
The renewal project will cost Ft 60-90 billion, Gyulai estimated.
Jean Todt, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) met with Palkovics and Viktor Orbán in the Prime Minister’s office on Friday morning.
