Márki-Zay Will Stop All New Stadium Construction in Hungary if Elected
Daily physical education classes would remain and companies would still be able to pay their corporate tax to sports associations if the opposition wins the election, but the state would end the construction of new sports stadiums, according to a new announcement from the opposition’s joint prime ministerial candidate.

On Facebook, Péter Márki-Zay announced a “Stadium Stop” policy if the current opposition coalition is able to form a government after next year’s Parliamentary elections.

Instead of new stadiums, public money for sports would be spent on building gyms, promised Márki-Zay.

In addition, physical education classes would still be held daily in schools, the TAO corporate tax credit would remain, and the amount allocated from the budget for sports would not be reduced.

In the first year of the Covid pandemic, the government reallocated 582 billion Ft. (US $1.79 billion) from the budget for sport-related purposes, of which 366 billion Ft. (US $1.12 billion) was dedicated to building sports halls and stadiums.
