Volánbusz Receives First Mercedes Buses
Debrecen-based ITE Bus & Truck has delivered the first six Mercedes-Benz Reform 501 LE buses out of the 88 ordered by the state-run coach operator Volánbusz, Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics said in Székesfehérvár.

Among the 88 buses, 90% will be the products of ITE Bus & Truck and the Győr-based Kravtex.

The new, low-floor buses have 45 seats and space for 30 standing passengers.

The vehicles, powered by a state-of-the-art diesel engine, are equipped with air conditioning, a camera, an electronic passenger information system and a passenger counter.

Palkovics added that more than 500 new buses will enter into service as Volánbusz vehicles in the first half of 2022 as part of the company’s fleet renewal programme.

Volánbusz “speeded up” its vehicle rejuvenation programme in 2018, thanks to which 1,700 buses arrived in the fleet over the last four years, reducing the average age of the vehicles from over 13 years to 10.6 years by the end of 2021.

By the end of 2022, 40% of the former fleet will be replaced, lowering the average age of the fleet to about eight years.
