Peace Or War At Stake In Election on Sunday, Says PM Orbán
A Fidesz win in Sunday's general election will guarantee Hungary staying out of the war in Ukraine, while an opposition victory would mean being dragged into it, the prime minister said in a video on Facebook.

Viktor Orbán said that what was at stake in the election was higher in light of the war since right- and left-wing parties had reacted to the war “in different ways”.

“Our position is completely clear: this is a Ukraine-Russia war. This is not our war. This is a war between two peoples,” he said, adding that “our hearts, naturally, are with those under attack.”

“No one can ask of us that we send our soldiers to a war which has nothing to do with us,” he said.

The same applied to sending weapons or allowing them to pass weapons through Hungary, Orbán said, adding that they would instantly become military targets in Hungary or in Transcarpathia, in western Ukraine.

The prime minister said that if the nationally minded side won the election, “we’d have a chance of peace”. With an opposition victory, however, there’d be a chance Hungary would be at war, Orbán added.
