Beckett Movie Now Shooting in Pest
Several scenes from “Dance First”, a movie about the life of Irish writer Samuel Beckett, are now being shot in Budapest.

“Dance First” is directed by James Marsh with Irish actor Gabriel Byrne playing Beckett.

Filming has begun on Gerlóczy and Vitkovics Mihály streets in central Pest, at the Vígszínház and at the New York Café.

The movie will depict a 1969 episode when Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, by which he was rather embarrassed and would have preferred not to receive the recognition.
