E-Vehicles Jump Up in Hungary
The number of electric cars has significantly increased in Hungary, as almost the same number of green license plates were issued in the first nine months of this year as in the whole of last year, the Ministry of Technology and Industry reports.

There are an estimated 58,500 environmentally friendly vehicles in Hungary, more than half of which are fully electric.

The number of green license plates has tripled since the beginning of 2020, and there are four times more of the most climate-friendly, purely electric vehicles than before the pandemic.

The vast majority of environmentally friendly vehicles are passenger cars, but there are also around 1,800 trucks and 143 buses, as well as 237 fully electric motorcycles, which can also use the green number plates.

The ministry added that, along with Germany, Hungary will become a European battery production centre in the future. Furthermore, state railway company MÁV is investigating the possibility of purchasing a hydrogen fuel cell motor train.
