US Report on Human Rights Paints Dismal Picture of Hungary

The report says the same about freedom of the press, saying that the government seriously restricts media freedom and specifically censors reports published in the media.
The report also alleges that NGOs are intimidated and that their work is impeded on legal grounds, and that civilians who deal with refugees are punished legally and financially.
Refugees arriving in Hungary are particularly vulnerable to being expelled from the country.
The rights of sexual minorities are curbed in Hungary, the report continues, as extremists threaten lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons as well as queer and intersexual persons.
The analyst deals separately with corruption in Hungary, writing that the state provides privileges to certain economic figures.
Although the government earlier took some vague steps to identify and investigate the activities of corrupt officials and bring the really corrupt ones to justice, in those cases where the suspicion of corruption arose in connection with high-ranking politicians, action was limited.
