Watch: Hungarian Police Seize E's Worth More Than Euro 12 Million
The Hungarian National Police announced on Thursday the seizure of 32 tons of the drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, in joint operations with the Tax and Customs Administration (NAV), Napi reports.

The estimated street value of the haul is some Ft 480 billion.

Based on intelligence from the NAV office in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, police first seized 13 tons of MDMA in April, and a few days later investigators found another 19 tons of the drug in two warehouses in Budapest.

In a follow-up operation, investigators checked several Hungarian and foreign hauliers and examined numerous waybills and travel documents.

As the evidence indicated foreign involvement, several foreign law enforcement agencies were contacted, ultimately revealing that an international criminal network was behind the shipments.

According to reports, seizures of illicit MDMA within the EU sank to a mere 2 tons in 2020, down from 7 tons in 2019, making the seizure of around 13 tons of MDMA by the Győr-Moson-Sopron county NAV directorate a record catch at EU level.
