Updated: Number of Foreigners Working in Hungary Nears 100,000
Growing foreign direct investment and domestic full employment make it necessary for Hungary to receive an increasing number of guest workers from Asia.

On the Mandiner website, Gábor Nagy writes that Hungary will need about 500 thousand new workers within the next five years, as foreign direct investment reaches record figures.

Given that the unemployment rate will sink below 4 percent this year, he believes only half of the new jobs will be filled by Hungarians. He puts the number of foreign, mainly Asian ‘guest workers’ at 100 thousand at present. Most of the newcomers are Filipinos and stay in Hungary with temporary residence permits.

The number of foreign workers working in Hungary may soon reach 100,000, reports portfolio.hu, based on data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

According to the data, there are currently 95,000 foreigners working in Hungary, and their number is increasing by about 1,000 every month.

KSH points out that the increase occurred among third-country nationals. In 2020, the number of foreigners working in Hungary was 60,000-70,000; by 2022, their number already exceeded 80,000.

The portal notes that, in addition to Ukraine and Serbia, foreigners from 15 other countries can come to work in Hungary under a simplified procedure.
