Comprehensive Plant-Based Food Selection at Kifli Hungary
Kifli.hu - the online supermarket, part of the European Rohlik Group - is taking another step forward in its commitment to sustainability, for a healthier planet and people, by significantly expanding the range of plant-based products.

Kifli's offerings include more than 500 delicious products from the plant-based category, building perhaps the widest range in the country, in addition, a  significant part of  the  online supermarket's assortment is vegan-friendly.

"Gone are the days when those who choose plant-based nutrition had to go from store to store to get everything. I follow this diet myself and I don't think I'm going to go back to eating meat," says Peter Klekner, Managing Director of Kifli.hu.

Growing popularity

Plant-based products  are made from nuts, oils, whole grains and legumes,   without ingredients of animal origin   ,  allow for a tasty and more balanced diet that can contribute to a healthier lifestyle.

And this is also reflected in the consumption habits of Kifli customers:

"A plant-based diet is becoming increasingly popular. At Kifli, more than 45% of shoppers have tried or purchased the plant-based products category on a regular basis, an annual improvement of almost 2 percentage points.

However, even more telling than the increase in the number of customers is the frequency of purchases, which has increased from 6 to 7 for the average category buyer, meaning that Kifli customers have not only tried it, but also found their new meat-free favorites.

The most popular categories within the plant-based diet are mostly those seeking to replace lactose, i.e. alternative plant-based drinks and vegan yoghurts, desserts, but alternative cooking creams and cheeses also closed a great year,"
explained Péter Sárközi, business analyst at Kifli.hu.

The Green Garden

All the dishes in The Green Garden were prepared by Rohlik with the help of the talented chef Julie Ulrich. The goal was to make delicious vegan dishes that even meat lovers would enjoy eating.

As Julia says, she founded The Green Garden to convince people that meat doesn't have to be part of their daily diet. For Rohlik, this concept was unique, so together with Julie the company decided to create a new 100% line of operation, in which only first-class raw materials are used.

"I confess that after the holidays, I often don't feel like standing by the stove for hours to prepare dinner or the next day's lunch, so The Green Garden range is a great alternative for me  too: single-dish dishes, sandwiches, wraps and tortillas immediately captivated me with their ingenious flavors," added Rita Szalma, commercial director of Kifli.hu.

Environmental impacts

Agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, pollution, land degradation, biodiversity loss and the depletion and pollution of freshwater.

Food production is responsible for up to 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and 70 percent of freshwater use. Animal foods, especially beef, account for about half of the food system's greenhouse gas emissions.

Frequent consumption of red meat has also been linked to an increased risk of cancer, heart disease, and certain types of diabetes.

A diet rich in plant foods requires fewer resources (without land, water, energy, fertilizer and antibiotics) than its high-content variety.

Fortunately, by now, those who would choose plant-based foods no longer have to compromise on taste, and the choice is so wide that there is an alternative to the entire weekly menu.
