In addition, the winery produces unique Tokaji specialties, including sweet Szamorodni and Aszú wines, which have been recognized among the best in international competitions such as Decanter or Mundus Vini.
Furthermore, the winery boasts exclusive, limited-edition rarities that are distinctive to them, such as Andante or Szamorodni Selection, made from selected aszú Sárgamuskotály clusters.
Balázs Sulyok, the Head of Viticulture and Oenology, emphasizes the importance of featuring sparkling wines prominently in the winery's portfolio. Throughout his work, he pays special attention to refining the sparkling wine-making process, with consumer feedback being particularly valuable to him.
Thanks to these refinements, our 2019 Organic Furmint Sparkling Wine Extra Brut won a gold medal and the "Best in Class Organic Hungarian Sparkling Wine" award at the 2023 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.
Following the Champagne method, our first sparkling wine was produced in 2011, followed by the next vintage in 2016, and since then, we have been making sparkling wines every year. The base material for the Gróf Degenfeld 2019 Organic Extra Brut sparkling wine comes from three outstanding areas - Terézia, Galambos, and Borkút vineyards - from 20-year-old vines.
After fermentation and aging in steel tanks, the wine is bottled. „We aim to invest in sparkling wine technology on the estate, enabling us to handle every aspect of sparkling wine production in-house. We have always filled the sparkling wine into the bottle up to the crown cap, but we did not have the technology for riddling and disgorgement.
Our 2019 Extra Brut sparkling wine is a pale lemon-colored drink with restrained aromas, featuring a subtle Tokaj minerality. Alongside citrus notes, one can discover the characteristic bready and yeasty aromas typical of traditional sparkling wine production. Upon tasting, the yeasty and bready notes persist, followed by the refreshing presence of green apple in the finish.”
