Universal Air is planning to launch regular flights linking Munich and Malta to the southern Hungarian town from March 26.
CEO Simon Cook told Telex that Universal Air received offers from other airports, but chose Pécs because of its location and the large number of Hungarians living in Malta.
Tickets will go on sale shortly, at around €130-150 per route.
The state asset manager MNB obtained a majority stake in the airport in 2021, but it was the city of Pécs, the minority owner, that continued the search for partners.
The journey time to Munich will be 1 hour 20 minutes, while the flight to Malta will take 2 hours 20 minutes. Another route is planned this May, likely bound for Corfu.
Two pricing options will be offered: premium business and a more affordable leisure option. The ticket price will include a 15 kg bag plus one piece of hand luggage, reports vg.hu.
