Budapest Airport Traffic Up by 20% in 2023
Passenger traffic at Liszt Ferenc International Airport increased by 20% to 14.6 million in 2023, reaching 91% of the traffic in the record year 2019, the Central Statistical Office said on Monday evening.

The number of European passengers was up by 17.4% at 12.8 million, compared with 2022.

Asian passenger numbers were up by 48% at 1.6 million, and cargo traffic went up by 6.7% at 142,762 tonnes.

Strong quarter for Budapest Airport’s passenger traffic and cargo business

In March, 1,296,509 passengers used Ferenc Liszt International Airport, 21.7% more than in the same period last year and 10.5% more than in March 2019.

This means that Budapest Airport handled more than 3.4 million passengers in the first quarter, exceeding the record year before the pandemic by 10.2%.

The impressive increase in passenger numbers is slightly ahead of  the company’s forecast that total annual passenger traffic will easily surpass the previous record of 16.2 million by the end of 2024.

Budapest Airport handled 23,720 tons of air cargo in March, 40.7% more than in March 2023, exceeding the strongest month ever for cargo, November, when 22,206 tons of cargo was processed at the airport.

A total of 61,940 tons of cargo was handled at Budapest Airport in the first quarter of 2024, 39.6% more than in the same period last year. The airport is forecast to handle up to 240 000 tons of cargo by the end of the year, marking another record year.
