Time Limit for Prosecuting Homicide in Hungary to Be Abolished

It said the public is justifiably shocked by the legal situation prevailing in the matter of Tamas Till, an 11-year-old boy who disappeared around Baja, southern Hungary in May of 2000.
He was reported as missing but police found his remains last June, buried in an outbuilding of a farm.
Under existing law, the perpetrator cannot be prosecuted, as he was a minor at the time and the deadline for prosecuting the killer has passed.
The killer, recently identified, was 16 years old at the time. Charges could not be filed against him because the 15-year deadline for prosecuting crimes committed by minors had passed.
The Fidesz caucus said the unusual and unacceptable situation requires an immediate response as it goes against the moral standards of all people of good conscience.
