German Woman Faces 15 Year Sentence for Killing Son in Hungary
Hungarian prosecutors have formally charged a 36-year-old German woman with the murder of her 11-year-old son in the town of Karcag. The Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a 15-year prison sentence in a maximum-security penitentiary (fegyház), alongside a 10-year expulsion from Hungary and a permanent ban from any profession involving children.

A Pattern of Neglect

24.hu reports: The family moved from Germany to Hungary in September 2021, settling first in Polány before moving to Karcag.

New details from the indictment reveal a troubling history of neglect:

Educational Gap: The boy’s schooling was abruptly halted when the family left Germany. Despite being of compulsory school age, he was never enrolled in a Hungarian school, and authorities say the mother made no effort to arrange for his continued education.

Parental Absence: While her partner (the boy's stepfather) worked away in Austria for extended periods, the woman reportedly left the child unattended for long stretches of time while she frequented local bars and social venues.

Escalation and the Night of the Incident

Investigators note that the defendant’s emotional state had become increasingly fragile due to escalating alcohol abuse. On the day of the tragedy, March 1st, reports state she had been drinking continuously throughout the day.

After a heated telephone argument with her partner that evening, she reportedly decided to end both her son's life and her own. After the child was killed, she wrote a farewell letter and attempted suicide. Her partner discovered her injured upon his return from Austria and called for an ambulance.

It was only later that the child's body was discovered in a small building (identified as a chicken coop) on the rented property.

Legal Status

The defendant is currently being charged with homicide of a person under the age of 14 and endangering a minor.

While she has expressed remorse and confessed to the act, the prosecution is requesting the exclusion of parole, meaning she would serve the full duration of any potential sentence. The final verdict will be delivered by the Szolnok Court.

Key Additional Details:

* The Victim's Age: He was 11 years old (previously cited as "young").
* Specific Charges: Added "endangering a minor" (kiskorú veszélyeztetése), which relates to the lack of schooling and the periods he was left alone.
* Prison Type: Specified "maximum-security" (fegyház), which is the strictest level in the Hungarian penal system.
* Timeline Clarification: The family's move was specifically in September 2021, and the crime occurred specifically following a period of the partner working in Austria.
