Budapest Mayor: System of Annual Bulky Waste Collection Should Be Maintained
The system of annual bulky waste collection should be maintained and changes should be introduced only on request by the district governments, the mayor of Budapest said after consultations with Mol, the company in charge of waste management, and district governments.

Gergely Karacsony said on Facebook on Wednesday that the government had held consultations only with ruling Fidesz on plans to change the system, but not with the metropolitan government and the district governments. This went against the Municipal Assembly's unanimous decision that consultations must be held, he added.

"In a state governed by the rule of law, talks are held with elected mayors, but in a party state, [talks are held] with the city party secretary," he said. "And this is a party state, even when it comes to the issue of bulky waste collection," Karacsony added.

The mayor said there was room for improvement in bulky waste collection, to make it greener and more sustainable.
