- 29 May 2025 4:50 PM
The aim of the three-day festival - following the traditions of previous occasions - is to provide an artistic forum for folk dance groups and artists and to encourage the creation of new works, the organisers announced.
Fourteen bands will be performing in this year's competition program of the festival, which is one of the oldest folk dance festivals in Hungary.
Rehearsals will take place at the Szigliget Theatre in Szolnok on Friday, May 30. On this day, there will be a street market and folk fair on Hild Square, from where a costume parade will start in the afternoon, and where there will also be a dance hall with the participation of the Sodrás Folk Music Ensemble and the Tisza Dance Ensemble.
As part of the opening, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble's performance "Dancing Hungarians" will be shown from late afternoon at the Aba-Novák Agóra Cultural Center. In the evening, the Hungarian Band will perform at Hild János Square.
The competition program will take place on Saturday, May 31st at the Szigliget Theater in Szolnok, and in the evening, a dance house with the Naszály Orchestra will be held at the Aba-Novák Agóra Cultural Center.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday afternoon, June 1st, at the Szigliget Theatre in Szolnok, followed by a gala show.
The first Szolnok Folk Dance Festival was held in 1964. The biennial national competition is a major meeting point for amateur folk dance groups. After a ten-year hiatus, the festival was revived in 2009, but in 2021 the organization was thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic.
