Twelve Hungarian Universities Now Ranked in World's Top 5%
Twelve Hungarian universities are in the world's top five percent, putting them "on the global map," the minister for culture and innovation said on Wednesday.

Budapest Semmelweis University is now ranked among the world's top one percent and another three universities in the top two, Balazs Hanko said at Europe Universities Summit in Budapest.

"We have achieved all this in the past few years," said Hanko, attributing the results to "reforms and a renewed, competitive and autonomous university world".

He said there was great interest around the world in the renewal of Hungary's higher education sector, noting that international rankings organisation THE is holding its major European rankings conference in Hungary.

Thanks to these reforms, Hungarian universities have become more autonomous, competitive and successful, the minister said.

In addition, those three, along with the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, made significant strides in specific disciplines.

Moreover, eight Hungarian universities earned new placements in subject-specific rankings. These include Corvinus University of Budapest, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Eötvös Loránd University, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Óbuda University, the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, and the University of Szeged.
