Consumer Price Index Edges up to 4.4% in Hungary

Food prices rose 5.9pc, but increased just 4.5pc excluding the price of eating out. The price of eggs jumped 26.0pc, flour prices increased 25.0pc and cooking oil prices climbed 25.3pc, but the price of margarin dropped 30.0pc and dairy products prices fell 7.4pc.
Household energy prices rose 5.3pc as piped gas prices climbed 11.4pc.
Consumer durable prices edged up 2.2pc.
Motor fuel prices fell 4.8pc.
Prices of spirits and tobacco products increased 7.3pc and clothing prices rose 2.1pc. Service prices were up 5.9pc.
CPI adjusted for better comparison with other European Union member states was 4.5pc.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile fuel and food prices, was 4.8pc.
The CPI calculated with a basket of goods and services used by pensioners was 4.5pc.
In a month-on-month comparison, consumer prices edged up 0.2pc. Food prices rose 0.6pc and household energy prices climbed 0.8pc, but motor fuel prices declined 1.9pc.
In a statement released after the publication of the fresh data, the National Economy Ministry pointed to government measures to counter "unjustified" price increases.
The ministry said a 10pc markups cap on a range of basic foods had cut prices of those products by 19.6pc, on average, while a 15pc markups cap on a number of household products had reduced their prices by 26.9pc.
Banks, insurers and telecommunications companies have voluntarily restricted their prices, and talks with pharmaceutical companies on voluntary price restrictions are underway, it added.
Voluntary price restrictions could shave 0.3pp off headline inflation, the ministry said.
